Etsy Interview With: ashleighmichelle

Long time no update, aye? Been a bit busy with Kittycrossbones! However I did get to interview Ashleigh Michelle, a client of mine! Taken from her profile: "These items are a bit on the smaller scale side, both for practicality in shipping and also because they make great gifts for any occcasion! There are also some limited edition digital reproductions of original works available from time to time, and ACEOs galore!"

Tell us a bit about yourself:
Well I am a small town girl who has gradually moved to larger and larger places. From Columbia, Kentucky(5000 people in the city) to Anchorage, Alaska (200000) and now to Las Vegas (2 million). I started my bachelor's degree at Eastern Kentucky University and transferred to the university of alaska, anchorage to complete my Bachelors of Arts in art. I enjoy all things artistic, and I stumbled upon etsy completely by accident...and now I am addicted!

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I love to sing karaoke, and go dancing. Doing things like that is a great way to relieve stress!

What first made you want to become an artist?
I'm not really sure. I have always had fun making art, and when the time came to go to college, I couldn't see myself doing anything else :)

What advice would you give to artists who are new to selling their handmade products?
Get into the chats and forums. Talking to other artists is a great way to build a community and network, as well as getting feedback on shop practices.

How do you promote your work?
Via chat and forums, as well on other art sites, like DeviantART. I also have a myspace blog and give out business cards at arts/crafts fairs.

Anything else you would like to add?
Nope ;)

Etsy Shop: BlackLilyPie

Tara from Blacklilypie is the Etsy shop of the day! I have purchased from Tara in the past and we have done some collaborating for the Sampler as well!

I fell in love with Blacklilypie when I did a search for 'black cat' one day on Etsy, her shop appeared and Tara's illustrations were just phenomenal, and I then became a fan of Batcat!

This information taken from Blacklilypie's profile!
"Blacklilypie is Tara Fortin.I am an illustrator, working from a pink, purple and black studio, making pink, purple and black things. I have been "blacklilypie" since high school. I am now a 28 year old full time illustrator and designer working from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I live with a giant grouchy cat (Check him out on YouTube) and my "dude" is a government employee with a blue mohawk. We live in a "flat above a shop" decorated with skulls and bats. Our closet is entirely black clothes, which makes laundry easy."

What are you waiting for?! Go pick up some great products at Blacklilypie today!
